He appeared in numerous western television series, including the 1958 episode "Attack" of Richard Carlson's Mackenzie's Raiders. Bannon was also the first husband of American actor and comedian Bea Benaderet. Their son, Jack Bannon, was a regular on the CBS drama series, Lou Grant, starring Ed Asner.
